Colorful Heritage of the Far East

The Quest for Wisdom Foundation (QFWF) is both pleased and proud to release our tenth (e)book in the QFWF-Wisdom Collection, Eye of the Tiger, Colorful Heritage of the Far East! This ebook is truly a pearl of wisdom in the truest sense of the word: images and narrations by Caroline Young of the fabulous stories, history and astrology from the rich cultural and mythological heritage of China and the rest of the Far East.

The author’s Chinese-American heritage gives her a keen sense of the archetypal symbols such as the pearl of wisdom and the wisdom of the animals in the stories, which are shared in both the East and the West — including her own story around the universal theme of the mother’s love.

Above all, her artistic expression of the myths in traditional Chinese gongbi style painting contributes to the unique blend of authenticity and universality of ancient wisdom.

Greg Suffanti and Joke Koppius have complemented cross-cultural aspects of many classical Chinese myths and Caroline Young’s narratives, which Caroline Young has appreciated as “profound and enlightening, allowing the reader to learn a lot about Asian culture and history.”

The book begins with Chinese astrology — the Five Celestial Animals and the twelve astrological signs — followed by a chapter on the Four Great Beauties of China, with fascinating legends about the significance of female power in Chinese history.

The astrological stories give the reader an exciting insight into mythical thinking and a life orientation that explains the world in terms of analogous patterns between the human and natural order and the supernatural cosmic realm. The next chapter expands on these basic ideas by telling myths and legends in which the fundamental forces of the universe are at work — the polarity between Yin and Yang and the antagonism of war and peace between states that rule the World; while in the relationships between humans and (im)mortals, the unifying force of love ultimately prevails.

In the chapter on the imperial heritage, the heroic and romantic stories are linked. These stories are connected to China’s history. The last part of the book is devoted to the famous story of Dream of the Red Chamber, followed by Japan’s Sakura Beauties, with a final chapter on mythical themes, focusing on Animal Wisdom.

We hope to touch the hearts of our readers and nourish the minds with this shining pearl of Eastern wisdom. All income from the book aims to support subsequent QFWF publications and projects for the purpose of unlocking the unifying power of the wide variety of rich wisdom traditions in a polarized world. A cosmopolitan world that we share, when seen from an intercultural perspective as Global Citizens.
