I move through life by listening, noticing, and feeling. I’m curious about people, cultures, and the quiet inner worlds we all carry with us. Words matter to me — not only how they sound, but how they make people feel when they are spoken with care.
I’m trained as an English teacher, and I love working with language: translating, choosing the right words, and expressing myself through writing. I’m especially interested in how language can soften distances between people, how it can create a sense of being seen and understood.
My given name is Nurevşan, which means “one who spreads light.” In the Netherlands, I use the name Nur. I hold this meaning gently, as something that reminds me to bring warmth, kindness, and presence into the spaces I’m part of.
In everyday life, I find comfort and joy in simple things: the company of my cats, quiet walks, reading, and crocheting. Working with yarn and my hands helps me slow down, breathe, and stay close to the moment. I deeply enjoy listening to people and being there for them — offering support, care, or simply a calm presence when it’s needed.
I value living with more presence and attentiveness, and staying connected to what feels meaningful — both in myself and in my relationships with others. I believe that world citizenship begins very close to home: in small gestures, attentive listening, and the willingness to meet one another with openness and respect.
One quote that stays with me is:
“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom.”
— Lao Tze
